Help for a Ukrainian Filmmaker Paramedic

Helena Maksyom and her group of volunteers in Luhansk region need our help and it’s very urgent. After spending the first few months helping bringing food and other primary goods to the most difficult areas in Ukraine – the ones that hardly nobody wanted to reach – and bringing people back to safer areas, she decided to join the National Guard at the frontline. There she was trained as paramedic and soldier.

Their group is at the very frontline of the conflict in Donbass, under constant shelling, with very difficult routes to get provisions. One of her jobs is the one of driving at the very front to collect injured soldiers, cure their wounds, bring them to the nearest hospital or move them out quickly when things get too intense. To do that, they need a car, cause all the ones they have been using until now got broken.

The hospital in the area was also bombed and moved further back. They need a way to move around, so we are raising some funds to get them a new vehicle.

WOULD YOU HELP US RAISE THIS MONEY AS FAST AS POSSIBLE ?

We need to raise about 5.000 euros. Every little bit helps and of course also sharing this with whoever you think might be up for helping would be awesome.

Helena (whom you can see in the pictures, before the war and most recently from where she is now) is a very special filmmaker and person, like no many others; and it’s no surprise she decided to put her life aside and be where she is now. She’s actually the only woman of the whole group. They call her “Director”, that’s her soldier nickname. She tells me that she is good at keeping people’s morale up and that is very much needed there. From that mess, she send me pictures of sunsets and always ask me how I am…. She’s one of the most generous, honest, caring, brave, tireless, determined people I know. And her documentaries are not only addressing very important social issues, but they are made with kindness, vulnerability, total dedication, full honesty. The type of work this world needs the most. I and many others hope she can be soon back to her life and filmmaking, but in the meantime we hope we can support her work there.

Here below is the PayPal and bank account of our other Ukrainian friend and film colleague Jeanne Maksymenko-Dovhych who is collecting the money to buy the car.
