Chodorkowskis neue Freiheit (2016) – Synopsis

“Chodorkowskis neue Freiheit” is the sequel to Tuschi’s 2011 documentary “Der Fall Chodorkowski”, when Kremlin critic Mikhail Khodorkovsky was still in prison in Siberia. The sequel follows the former oil oligarch’s first steps to freedom after his nemesis, Russian President Putin, suddenly pardoned him in December 2013. Tuschi questions Khodorkovsky as a kind of key witness for Russia and challenges him to be ruthlessly honest. Who is Khodorkovsky really? Is he planning his return to Russia? Does he want to take revenge on Putin for his imprisonment?
