On February 26, 2022, Michael Maier flew from Germany to the Romanian – Ukrainian border. Since then, he has helped over 1,000 Ukrainians with accommodation, medicine, food, clothes and transport from Ukraine to Romania, Republic of Moldova and Germany. Michael has also helped orphans. Every day, convoys of 10 to 25 vehicles travel to several locations on the Ukrainian border to bring people in need of protection to pre-selected host families in a single trip without detours. The main focus is on women, children and seniors traveling alone. On this way also medicines, foodstuffs as well as specifically requested relief supplies are brought to the borders. Drivers are always needed, as well as host families who can offer refugees a place to stay.

The federal point of contact mediates and coordinates supply and demand for newly arriving refugees from the Ukraine with disabilities and/or care needs. The aim of the “Bundeskontaktstelle” is to create transparency about the needs of refugees from Ukraine with disabilities and/or care needs, e.g. by collecting specific information around care needs and/or degrees of disability from the evacuating organizations before they arrive in Germany. Furthermore, it supports the 16 state coordination points in finding appropriate accommodation by forwarding the needs identified in advance to the states at an early stage.

The Lithuanian Film Center under the Ministry of Culture announces the acceptance of applications for grants from Ukrainian citizens, film culture or art creators. Adult citizens of Ukraine, film culture or art creators, who have been granted temporary protection in the Republic of Lithuania are entitled to receive grants. The amount of the grant is 1800 EUR, for the period of 3 months.

Tampere University offers study opportunities to degree students who arrive in Finland due to the humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine. The University grants rights to study in Open University and non-degree courses.Students who obtain a right to study are exempt from tuition fees. Moreover, researchers can apply for fixed-term Postdoctoral Research Fellow posts. Tampere University’s English-language studies are aimed at bachelor’s and master’s level students whose studies have been interrupted at a Ukrainian higher education institution.
