Original title: Herr Pilipenko und sein U-Boot. Director: Jan Hinrik Drevs, René Harder. Writer: Jan Hinrik Drevs, René Harder. Producer: Jens Fintelmann, Thomas Seekamp. Starring: Vladimir PIlipenko. Genre: Feature-length documentary, Portrait. Country: Germany. Language: Ukrainian, English and German subtitles. Length: 90 min

What would you do with a pile of scrap metal, some old spare parts and 30 years to kill in the Ukrainian steppe? Vladimir Pilipenko built a submersible. Life-size. And in the village lake, his submersible worked! But Vladimir has set his sights on something bigger than the local pond. So off he goes. But not before the submersible has undergone rigorous trials, under the fevered gaze of a fascinated village. With trials complete and preparations made, a rickety old grain transporter drags the sub and its creator over steppe and mountains to the Crimean coast. Back in real life
